Cariboo Mountains Provincial Park is true wilderness, dominated by high serrated peaks and glaciers, and densely forested valleys featuring attractive lakes and lush wetlands. The Park is situated in the interior wet belt between Bowron and Wells Gray Provincial Parks. These parks now create one continuous protected area in the Cariboo Mountains that is over 760,000 hectares in size. The park incorporates a diverse landscape ranging from mountain peaks and tarn lakes in hanging alpine valleys, to extensive meadows, large wetland complexes, and ancient red-cedar and hemlock forests. These diverse habitats support an equally diverse array of wildlife species. Though current use levels are low, Cariboo Mountains Provincial Park offers extensive (though undeveloped) opportunities for backcountry adventures. Vehicle access camping is available at Ghost Lake. This small, remote site features views down the lake and up into the surrounding mountains, and is adjacent to the scenic Matthew River Falls.

Long famous for its rainbow trout, Carp Lake Provincial Park, just two hours north of Prince George and nearly in the exact centre of the province, offers some of the best fishing in the Central Interior. The park includes Carp Lake, nearby War Lake, numerous smaller lakes and streams, and the 8-kilometre waterway that connects Carp and War Lakes and which forms the beginning of the McLeod River. The northern shoreline of Carp Lake has extensive sand beaches with broad belts of sand extending up to 300 metres offshore. The sandy character of the north shore contrasts with the smooth-bouldered beaches broken by sand deltas of the spruce-forested south shore.

Adjacent to the northwest portion of E.C. Manning Provincial Park, the Cascade Recreation Area lies within the Hozameen Range of the Cascade Mountains.Summer activities include hiking, horseback riding and nature appreciation. During the summer months one can access the area from either the Cascade Recreation Area parking lot, located 12 km east of the West Gate, or the Whipsaw Creek Road, 32 km east of the east gate. Logging trucks frequently use the Whipsaw Creek Road. Winter enthusiasts enjoy snowmobiling in the northeast corner of the Granite Mountain area. Other than the snowmobile area, winter access is not recommended due to the high avalanche hazard. The Whipsaw Creek Road located 48 km east of the Visitor Centre is the only road into the snowmobile area and is frequently used by logging trucks. Fishing opportunities are limited in this park.

Sea kayaking, boating and wilderness camping are the main attractions for visitors to Catala Island Provincial Marine Park. The park encompasses numerous reefs, islets and marine ecosystems as well as a lake, bog area and rugged shoreline, all of which provide ample opportunities for exploration. Rustic trails lead to the lake and bog in the center of the island, which features tall trees twisted by the fierce winds coming off the Pacific Ocean. This forest forms a ragged backdrop to the island's smooth, sandy beaches. Wilderness, backcountry or walk-in camping is allowed, but no facilities are provided. There is one wilderness, user-maintained beach camping area on the peninsula at Rolling Roadstead. A pit toilet is located at this location. Other good camping areas can be found in the vicinity of the Twin Islands. There are opportunities for salt water fishing within this park; species include a variety of salmon and rockfish.
